Privacy Policy
Effective date: [EFFECTIVE DATE]
This Privacy Policy explains how Bizarro Sound (“we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses and protects personal information when you visit this website or sign up to join our community. It is provided in accordance with the California Online Privacy Protection Act (CalOPPA) and other applicable U.S. privacy laws.
Information we collect
- Information you give us: your first name, email address and Instagram handle.
- Optional questionnaire answers: your music preferences, influences, what draws you to events, whether you attend events in the Bay Area, and whether you would like to receive invitations. All questions are optional.
- Consent records: the date and time you agreed to receive emails and confirmed your age.
- Basic technical information: our hosting provider may automatically log standard information such as IP address, browser type and pages visited, for security and to keep the site running.
- Flyer QR scans: when you scan one of our QR codes, we record the time, which flyer or location the code belongs to, your approximate city and country, and the type of device (for example iOS or Android). We do not record your exact location.
- Cookies (only if you click Accept): Google Analytics measures how visitors use the site, and the Meta Pixel helps us measure our outreach and show our events to people on Instagram and Facebook who may be interested, including people similar to our members. These tools may collect your IP address, device and browser information, pages visited, and actions such as signing up.
We do not knowingly collect sensitive personal information.
Cookies and your privacy choices
No analytics or advertising cookies are placed until you click Accept on our cookie notice. If you click Decline, or if your browser sends a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal, we do not load them. You can change your choice at any time through the Your Privacy Choices link at the bottom of every page. Under California law, allowing Meta to use this information for advertising may be considered “sharing” of personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising; declining cookies or using GPC opts you out.
How we use your information
- To send you updates and invitations to gatherings, artists and experiences we curate in the Bay Area.
- To understand our community’s musical interests so we can personalize what we send you.
- To confirm that each sign-up is a real person, to connect with you on Instagram, and to keep our community and events safe.
- To measure which flyers and locations bring people to the site, and how many people scan, visit and sign up.
- With your consent, to show our events to interested people on Instagram and Facebook.
- To keep the site secure and comply with the law.
Fair and equal treatment
We welcome everyone who shares a love of music. Invitations are based on your stated interest in our events, your participation in the community, available capacity, and conduct. We do not make invitation decisions based on appearance or on race, color, sex, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, religion, ancestry, national origin, disability, medical condition, marital status, citizenship, primary language, immigration status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
How we share information
We do not sell or rent your personal information. We share it only with service providers that help us run the site and send emails (for example, website hosting, database and email delivery providers), who may use it only to provide services to us; with Google and Meta through cookies, only if you click Accept, as described above; or when required by law.
Emails and unsubscribing
Every email we send includes a link to unsubscribe. You can also unsubscribe at any time by writing to [CONTACT EMAIL]. We will process your request promptly.
Your choices and rights
You may ask us to tell you what personal information we hold about you, to correct it, or to delete it, by writing to [CONTACT EMAIL]. California residents may have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), as amended by the CPRA, where it applies, including the right to know, delete and correct personal information, and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights. We will not discriminate against you for making a request.
Do Not Track
We honor the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal as a request to opt out of analytics and advertising cookies. Because “Do Not Track” has no common standard, we respond to it the same way we respond to visitors who have not made a choice: no analytics or advertising cookies load unless you click Accept.
Age requirement
This site and our community are intended only for adults aged 21 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 21, and the site is not directed to children under 13. If you believe someone under 21 has signed up, contact us and we will delete their information.
Data retention and security
We keep your information for as long as you remain part of our community, and delete it within a reasonable time after you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it, unless the law requires us to keep it longer. We use reasonable administrative, technical and physical safeguards to protect your information, but no method of transmission or storage is completely secure.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the updated version on this page with a new effective date.
